Cisco retains no.1 position in India WLAN market in revenues in 2009

BANGALORE, INDIA: Cisco has been ranked the Number 1 vendor in India in the Wireless LAN equipment market in revenues in 2009, as per IDC’s Asia/Pacific Semiannual Wireless LAN Tracker, 2H2009, April 2010.

Cisco has been holding the Number 1 position in India for three consecutive years 2007, 2008 and 2009. Cisco held 19.6% revenue market share in 2009 that enabled it to retain its leadership in the WLAN market in India.

The Indian Wireless LAN equipment market has evolved rapidly as a way of differentiation and to meet consumers' needs. From the provisioning of public hotspots to enterprise deployment, the interest to deploy WLAN has been on a continuous rise.

Ahead of the market demand, Cisco not only introduced compelling range of Wireless N products to the Indian market but also established 16 RMA exchange centers over the last 15 months. Cisco has also grown its channel partner base to 2000, a growth of almost 50 percent Y-O-Y and has rapidly extended its channel partner network to Tier II, III and IV locations covering over 200 big and small cities.

Suresh Balasubramanian, the National Sales Director of Cisco Consumer Products, said: "It gives us immense pleasure to be ranked No1 by IDC for Wireless LAN segment. Our realignment of business strategy and investment in team and infrastructure development has worked well for us. This recognition is a testament to the fact that wireless internet adoption is catching up in India and Cisco has been the top choice of consumers and enterprises alike.

"With our continued commitment and focus on bringing the world class products as well as the expansion of our partner base and after sale service, we are confident to further drive our growth in years to come."
